“Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison. But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” Genesis 39:20-21 NKJV
Most of us know the story of Joseph, if you are not familiar you can find it starting in Genesis 37. Joseph was the second to youngest of his fathers Children and he was beloved by his father.
The Lord revealed dreams to Joseph about His greatness at a young age (Genesis 37). Due to envy from his brothers, Joseph was sold to be a slave in Egypt. Even in slavery the Lord’s favor was upon Joseph and he found himself in favorable positions.
Our scripture today brings us to another turning point in Joseph’s life’s journey where he was placed in jail. How is it that Joseph who had these promising dreams that he will reign over many including his household lands himself in jail,
and not just in jail but also as a slave? With our physical eyes, we see he had no freedom or even a position to remotely match his dreams. His current situation definitely did not match the visions revealed to him by God.
He was going through a lot of hardship, uncertainty, and I’m sure at times he was even perplexed. Maybe that’s how you find yourself now, God has revealed so many things to you concerning your life, but yet you find your situation to be the opposite of those revelations.
God if I’m going to be the CEO of a company, how come I can’t even get a job or for that matter keep one? God if I’m going to do your work, how come I can’t even sustain the scriptures I read? God___ (fill in the blank for yours). What God is saying is that, it’s not about you.
It’s about all the multitudes of souls He is going to use you through Him to impact. Many times we don’t want to go through the hardship, we don’t want to go through the fire, we don’t want to go through the isolation, we don’t want to get molded or pruned, e.t.c.
But those are all necessary parts of the process to get us to that purified shiny level. If we don’t go through those things we will not be equipped to be responsible in the greatness. If we don’t go through those things we will not withstand the test of fire when it comes (1 Peter 1:7).
Let us be rest assured that no matter how bad the situation may get in the process, the favor and mercy of God will always locate us just as He did Joseph. Every single part of Joesph’s process worked together for good, (Genesis 45:7-8)
because through him many lives including his own family were saved from the famine. So we see, it wasn’t about Joseph as an individual, but it was about the lives God wanted to save.
It wasn’t a pretty or preferable process but the glory of God prevailed upon his life in the end. The vision concerning his life was fulfilled exactly as God had revealed. So today have some 1:1 with God and find out from Him,
God what is the purpose to be birthed out of this process I’m going through? God I know you are doing it through me but I know it’s not about me, please help me to accept the process and strengthen me to go through it.
Surrender your all to the process of God no matter how difficult or scary it may seem. He will help you just as he helped Joseph. Amen. Jesus loves you.
