II Timothy 4:7-8
Have you ever watched a race where the individual came in first place through the finish line but yet lost the race? Most times you will see that they’ll announce that the officials reviewed the video and saw some sort of minor technicality which disqualified the individual.
As children of God we all know that we are in a race, but in this race, there is no competition. We are all going to cross the same finish line and just like with every event, there are rules Which we must abide by.
God has uniquely carved out each and everyone’s path/lane for their race. Mine is unique to me and yours is unique to you. The problem now a days is that many people find themselves in other people’s lanes, and they unnecessarily put all their energy and effort in competing with one another.
A time is coming where you will cross the finish line and your video will be reviewed.
Will your review show that you ran the race but lost or will you receive your prize and reward for running it well? (V.8) Jesus Christ is our great official and He is watching us now and taking notes, on that great day of judgement, He will make the final call.
So, ask yourself today, am I running my own race in my lane or am I running in someone else’s lane in vain? Am I busy unnecessarily competing with others?
Am I busy trying to take a short cut to make things easier for myself, especially in today’s society where most people want the easiest and fastest solutions to their situations? Or, Am I letting fear suppress me from excelling in my race? Let us not become surprised on that day for there will not be another chance.
Now is the time to review if we are still following the rules of the race, because remember that we can deceive those around us and sometimes even ourselves, but we can never deceive God. He sees all and everything that is done in secret will come to light (Luke 8:17).
Let us ask the Lord to search us (Psalm 139:23) and show us where we lack. Let us rid ourselves of any weights of sin which will slow us down (I John 1:9 & Matthew 6:14-15).
Let us study the word of God well and know it for ourselves to guide us on this race (Psalm 119:105), and lastly let us focus on Jesus and not the many distractions around us (Hebrews12:2). May we allow the Lord to help us to not run a losing race. Amen!
