When we look at 1 Kings 19:11-13, we see that Elijah went up to the mountain to seek the Lord. Elijah at that time was desperate for immediate relief from his situation. Elijah was directed to go stand on the mountain which he did.
During that time the Lord moved through a strong wind, an earthquake and fire but the Lord was not in any of them.
Many at times when we are desperate to hear from the Lord or desperate to receive desires of our heart, we tend to get distracted in the wind and waves of our desperation and miss the Lord.
Why do we usually miss the Lord? Because most times we are seeking Him to respond in the form of that strong wind, earthquake or the fire.
We seek signs and wonders and at times miss the way and seek answers from people. Not saying that it’s bad to consult people, the point I am making is that we become so desperate we compromise.
You compromise on the direction the Lord has given you.
There is a lot happening around us today, how are you looking to hear from the Lord? He’s not a one-way God, He operates in so many fashions and forms and responds in so many unexpected ways.
But remember that He’s not always going to answer by fire from the sky for all to see as He did for Elijah on Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18:38). He wants you to listen out for His still small voice. See, after the fire (v.12) is when Elijah heard the still small voice and then He we went out and stood.
That is when the Lord spoke to Him. Maybe today you are looking out through the front door for your answer from the Lord because that’s how He’s always responded to you.
Maybe you are waiting for that fire to fall from the sky with your answer or maybe you want to see Him as He appeared to the Israelites on Mt Sinai (Exodus 19:18). He sure does respond and can do that for you.
However, my friend, He’s reminding you and I today to also listen out for His still small voice. The still small voice will bring the answers to that breakthrough you are seeking and it will all be to the glory of His name. May the Lord bless us all on this lovely Tuesday. Amen!
Prayer: God thank you for reminding me to be sensitive to your still small voice. Father please make me spiritually alert to see and hear how you are answering all my prayers in Jesus name. Amen
